Human Rights Declaration

The OPTF's mission is to support technology and education efforts that uphold people's human rights. Our belief that technology can positively impact people around the world guides our work.

Our projects and initiatives are guided by internationally recognised human rights standards. We are committed to respecting the rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and upholding the standards established in the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs).

We believe in the rights of all peoples to their privacy, security, safety, freedoms of opinions, expression, association, and peaceful assembly. Responsible decision-making and development, robust education, and genuine transparency are essential to ensure we create technologies which respect, strengthen, and guard these enshrined, fundamental rights.

Engagement and education

Understanding and input from a diverse range of peoples is essential to ensuring we create technology which upholds human rights. Consultation with external experts and affected stakeholders informs the development of our products, projects, and policies.

Human rights principles in development

We are guided by civil and human rights principles into both short-term and long-term development decisions. Our development frameworks include guidance on considering possible risks, benefits, and overall human rights impacts of new products and features.

Openness and transparency

Our organisation is committed to transparency regarding our organisation, conduct, and code. This includes open-sourcing our development efforts, commissioning and publishing external audits of our organisation, and publishing transparency reports detailing requests for user data and content removal.
